Bridesmaids On the Same Page

bridesmaids on the same pagebridesmaidsbridesmaids on the same pageIf you ever feel as if you need a shot of humility, start a blog. As soon as you think you’re the cleverest person alive, you’ll realize 500 other blogs have already thought your thought…and done it even better. I thought I was super clever with this idea: gathering paint-chips in the colors of the wedding and giving a set of each chip collection to each of my bridesmaids. Yeah. Its already been done apparently but I’m sharing anyway because I still think its a cool idea and I honestly hadn’t seen it done until I started to pick out my paint chips and realized The Knot, Style Me Pretty, and pretty much ever bride destination on the web had beat me to it. I think its a great way to keep all the girls on the same page, and keeps you in control even if you’re thinking of letting everyone choose their own dress. The color ranges on the cards give the girls a little wiggle room while still preserving whatever glorious picture you have in your head.

And These Little Piggies…Summer Nail Tips

summer toes…stayed white all summer long. On the very, very, very rare occasion my toes are bare-naked without a shred of polish, I remember why I never go without it. My beauty book told me when your nails start yellowing a bit from too many hidden days spent beneath their polished veil, soak them for five or so minutes in a bowl of water with a denture cleaning tablet dissolved in the water. Besides the slightly embarrassing potential moment of walking through the checkout buying Poli-dent, I thought it worth a try…I don’t know if my eyes took the con and believed my nails to be whiter, or if in fact they really were, but, I think it worked! Give it a try, even if  the thought of naked nails makes you blush, at least you know you could go bare if you ever wanted to.

If you just can’t bear the thought of…uh…bareness though, Allure magazine just chose the top eight colors for this summer’s pedicures: Orange, silver, coral, vibrant blue, juicy pink, baby blue, beige, and pastel.

Regardless of the trend, I’m stuck on a neon phase. You really can’t have more fun than if you’re wearing neon.

**I got to see a sneak peek last night of the new blog and oh my, I can’t wait to share but I’m going to be selfish and keep it to myself for just a wee bit longer. I don’t want to take anything away from the big launch in just less than two weeks now. I will give you some insights next week though on the final moodboard my designer and I decided on so get excited! **

Reel Women: Man’s Favorite Sport

1960’s movies are the best. Where else can you see people camping in sport coats, ties, heels, and belted, white skirts? “Man’s Favorite Sport” is a completely under-praised film. Maybe because it’s not the usual pairing of Rock Hudson and Doris Day, but not very many people say “oh yeah!” if you bring this flick up. But seriously, watch it, because Paula Prentiss makes a pretty great second to Rock’s lead and besides that she’s also a perfect muse for my own trip this weekend into the wilderness–1960s style wilderness that is, which is just how I like it. I didn’t do a complete steal of Paula’s look from this scene **right before she kisses Rock Hudson btw.** I may be inspired by 1960’s films of aesthetic perfection, but real life has told me journeys into the woods aren’t too friendly on white so denim is a bit of a more modern view on that.

In the movie, Rock Hudson plays a “faux” fisherman, working for a sporting goods store called Abercrombie and Fitch (yes, really, same name…haven’t they come a long way in the wrong direction since the 60’s). He’s written a book on fishing but has never actually fished himself, and when Paula Prentiss invites him to a lodge’s fishing competition to promote the store, Rock has to learn to fish and of course a million different, highly improbable, but completely hilarious, events occur along the way. If you read into the title, viewers are supposed to answer the question that Man’s Favorite Sport (?) isn’t really fishing…unless it’s fishing for women. There’s the usual bitchy fiance in the way of the leading man falling in love with the right girl, and the secondary plot of him realizing he really loves the complete disaster girl who is, in the end, actually, completely adorable. And Paula Prentiss, complete with perfectly pulled together outfits, flawless makeup even when emerging fresh from the water, and late-night rendevous in adorable matching pajamas is the perfect inspiration for this summer’s journeys, however short I may fall of that image of perfection.

I’m headed off for a few days for a much, much needed vacation. I’ve completely over-packed, charged my camera to its longest length of picture plaguing abilities, and worked myself into a frenzied excitement for this weekend so I know I’m ready. Next week hopefully there will be pictures to share and also another hint about the blog-launch because I’m meeting with my designer for our first review of the design. Stick around!
